FAQs:

Do you take insurance?

The Center for Creative Counseling currently accepts select insurance plans. Please check this list to see if your insurance is accepted. If I don’t take your insurance, all services are self-pay. However, many insurance plans include Out-Of-Network (OON) benefits that provide partial or full reimbursement for therapy fees. This means you pay your fee out-of-pocket, and I provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement. Contact your insurance provider to confirm your out-of-network benefits.

What will therapy be like?

My therapy style is collaborative, caring, and focused. I take time to get to know you, your struggles, and what you want to work on. I will never tell you what to do, but I will share what I notice and what you teach me about you. I will offer feedback and work to deliver it in ways that work for you. Therapy is definitely work, but I believe it should be fun, too.😊 To learn more about my my approach, check out my About page. And for a more detailed explanation about the treatment process and the types of therapy services I offer, you can visit the Services page.

What forms of payment do you accept?

For self-pay services and co-pays, the Center for Creative Counseling accepts payment via Credit Card, HSA, or FSA cards. The Center only accepts Optum insurance at this time, so clients without Optum insurance pay out of pocket. I can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

No, not at this time. Currently, the Center for Creative Counseling is completely online. I offer telehealth therapy services in Pennsylvania through a HIPAA-secure platform.

Why don't you take insurance?

The Center for Creative Counseling does not bill insurance for several reasons. The most important of these is how it relates to the quality of services provided to you. When insurance companies have power over reimbursement rates, therapists sometimes take on more clients than they would prefer, in order to make a living wage. Having complete control over my therapy fees allows me to see the number of clients that’s right for my practice. Maintaining a balanced schedule without fear of burning out allows me to really show up for my clients. I can provide the premium, high-quality therapy services that they deserve.

What is your cancellation policy?

The Center for Creative Counseling maintains a 24-hour cancellation policy. This policy requires clients to provide at least 24 hours notice if they need to cancel or reschedule a session. Clients who miss a scheduled session, or cancel the session less than 24 hours before the appointment, will be charged the full fee for the session.

How long will therapy take?

In terms of session length, the initial assessment is an hour and a half, and each standard therapy session after that is 55 minutes. When it comes to session frequency, all clients start out at weekly sessions. This allows us to get to know each other with ease. Consistent weekly sessions also improve treatment effectiveness. As you progress through therapy, we will work together to determine when it makes sense to step down your session frequency.

When it comes to length of treatment, there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ timeframe. Some clients achieve their goals after several months of weekly sessions, and then shift to biweekly or monthly maintenance sessions. While others take more time and then come to a planful stop. It really depends on what you need and how you feel things are going. When it comes to ending therapy, you’re in the driver seat. Although I will provide my recommendations, how long you stay in therapy in completely up to you. 🙂

What is online therapy like? Do I need to be good with technology?

Online therapy, also known as telemental health, telehealth therapy, or distance counseling, is a convenient, confidential way to get the therapy you need. I use secure technology and a HIPAA-approved platform to conduct video sessions. Online therapy is just like in-person therapy except that you get to attend sessions from the comfort of your home. Plus, you don’t have to worry about commute time, parking, or running into someone you know in the waiting room. Online therapy is private, confidential, and effective. My clients especially love the convenience of online therapy.

In terms of technology, you don’t have to be a tech expert to enjoy the benefits of online therapy. Far from it, actually. 😀 All you need is an internet connection and a smartphone, tablet, or computer. I will provide easy-to-follow instructions to get you set up. I’m also happy to walk you through any issues you might encounter along the way. Learn more about online therapy services here.

How do I get started?

I offer a free (and painless) 15-minute consultation to get a better understanding of your needs and to determine if we are a good fit. I like to do consultations via video so we can see each other, and so you can get a feel for what sessions will be like using the online platform.

During the consultation, I will ask you a few questions about what you want to work on, what your schedule is like, and what kinds of services you’re interested in. I will talk with you about my fees, my availability, and my areas of specialization. If it seems like I will be able to help, we will schedule an initial assessment and I will send you some intake paperwork to complete. If we decide I am not the right therapist for what you need, I will provide you with appropriate referrals.

If all of that sounds good to you, you can click the button below to get started. You can ask any remaining questions you may have during the free consultation. And don’t worry,  even if we meet for a consultation, you are under no obligation to start therapy with me. I won’t pressure you or try to sell therapy services to you. Therapy works best when you are ready to step into the work. 😊
